About Angelite cabochons
Angelite, also known as angel stone, is a glacier-blue or lilac-blue-colored soft stone. Actually, it is an Anhydrite (CaSo4 – Hydrated Calcium Sulfate).
It is a product of the evaporation of seawater. Its name comes from the Greek “anhydras” (= without water), a reference to Angelite being a gypsum that has completely lost all hydration, becoming a stone that is “without water”. When exposed over a longer period to water, anhydrite will lose color intensity, become whitish and slowly transform into the more commonly occurring gypsum by the absorption of water. The Mohs hardness is 3.5.
Commonly Angelite nodes are about fist size. However, we also have a source of bigger nodes that provide for bigger décor products
Common impurities are snow-white gypsum flecks or lines as well as brown lines.
