Pyrite cluster with fluorescent calcite (MuESP025)
Pyrite cluster with fluorescent calcite (MuESP025) from Huanzala Mine, Peru for you
A unique pyrite cluster with fluorescent calcite (MuESP025) for you. Because it is mixed with calcite the pyrite can not be processed with the regular acid-cleaning process. The acid would have dissolved the calcite crystals. Therefore the reddish oxide layer still is on the pyrite giving it a unique color. Another unique must-have specimen for collectors of special pieces.
Museum size: 20 x 17 x 110 cm.
Weight: 2076 grams
Origin: Huanzala mine, Ancash, Peru

Pyrite or Iron pyrite is also known as fool’s gold. In fact, it is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS2 (iron (II) disulfide).
This crystal comes from the famous Huanzala mine.
Huanzala is a lead-zinc mine with a 1,200 tons/day capacity, operated by Cia. Minera Santa Luisa. Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co. (Japan) holds ownership of the mine. The mine is famous all around the world for excellent pyrite and fluorite specimens. According to well-known mineral specimen importer Rock Currier, the Huanzala mine probably holds the world record with regard to the total tonnage of mineral specimens produced by a single mine. According to Mardani Fine Minerals “Huanzala has been praised as one of the greatest pyrite localities of all time.”
